Maui Magic

I've been fantasizing about going to a tropical destination this summer but alas, I am believe I'm Ojai bound.  I can't complain BUT there is nothing like the beautiful trade winds blowing through your hair while watching the sunset on the western shores of Maui....or the north shore of Hanalei.  I am patient though.  I can wait.  I know I will return. 

My first visit to Hawaii was on the way home to California from our two years in Anchorage when I was 6 years old.  I still remember it....the smells of plumeria, the exciting fire dancing at the luau, the warm humid mornings savouring pineapple and gagging over papaya (my sister said they tasted like bandaides!) Second trip was my highschool graduation gift..... whooping it up in Lahaina and Waikiki with my fake ID.  Third trip was during college years to Maui with my parents as I recovered from surgery.  And then the patient wait....almost 20 years later... with my own family kids and all to Hanalei. Heaven on earth is was and is and so worth the wait.  

I've had a few more quick trips since but am itching to get back to Maui.  My aunt Cheri lived there for years (she hosted me and my friend on my graduation trip) and is still inspired by the landscape to paint it's beauty.   She now has a shop on Etsy too! (If I could only get my mom and grandma on Etsy too we would have a monopoly!)

Since I'm not getting to Maui anytime soon, I'll keep playing my Hawaiian music (I would share a tune if I could figure out how to do it!) and enjoying my auntie's art.  Keep on painting Cheri!

Treasury of Mandalas

I haven't been posting...or posting about my jewelry...... lately because I've been busy creating!   LOTS of new stuff will be appearing on my blog and Etsy soon.  

Sparkling Starburst Mandala

Here's my latest creation for the Gandhara Collection on Etsy.  I'm calling this fine silver metal clay pendant the "starburst mandala".  I'm having fun experimenting with tiny cubic zironias in metal clay before I try using the real thing...diamonds.  These CZs are so small that setting them is NOT easy... especially with my deteriorating eyesight...  that these days I need to work through the magnifying glass!  This design is from a sketch I did several years ago that was inspired by an ancient Indian jewelry design.


Anyone interested in east Indian jewelry should own the incredible book called Traditional Jewelry of India.  It is one of my treasured possessions. You can peek through the book on Amazon.

PMC Eternal Spirol Ready for Etsy!

I finally had some time today, after spending 9 days straight playing Star Wars with my son on Winter Break, to get back to the "bench". I spent all morning assembling various pieces together for my new collection as well as some fun new earrings to add to the Gandhara Collection on Etsy. See above for a sneak peak! This is the pendant I made from the linoleum cut I made in college with a faceted carnelian bead, a homemade pmc fine silver beads and braided hemp cord.

Logo News

I'm so excited about my new logo design! My friend and fellow artist, Tegan Hope, has just helped me redesign my logo and she did a great job helping me actualize my vision. Tegan is talented in so many areas ... painting, jewelry design, graphic art, letterpress. Thank you Tegan for supporting my dreams and keeping me company with "clay dates"!

While Tegan was working on my website logo, I thought I would play with a precious metal clay logo. I've been wearing it everyday and getting lots of ooohs and aaaahs.... I better make another for Etsy!

Happiness is Handmade

Instead of dwelling on the negative happenings of the week... ie: ramming the back of my new car into the side of my old car and denting both (sorry Elizabeth!), my leaking roof and broken dishwasher.....I am finding much happiness in small things.

Maybe I'm confusing a small joy with an obsession but I'm really enjoying getting my new Etsy business off the ground. But, nobody warned me about marketing fever! I didn't know artists could catch it. I can't stop myself from browsing every website I can find with helpful hints for successful sales. It's a fun challenge!

Well, I did it ...... Finally! I have listed my first item for sale on Etsy! My banner is not up yet and I only have one item up so far but I'm so excited. I have been procrastinating for a year now because I didn't have EVERYTHING ready. I have decided that it doesn't matter. It's a process, right? The rest will come in time. I do have my mailing envelopes, mailing labels, gift boxes, mailing scale, business cards.....and jewelry, of course. Maybe this is the paradigm shift I've been waiting for!
